Primary  School  is  the  start  of formal education  and  the  equivalent  of   Key Stage  1   and  Key Stage 2  in the  British state education  system.  A Key Stage is a stage of the state education system in the UK  that  sets  the educational knowledge expected of students at various ages. Learners' progress through school is measured in key stages. Each key stage covers a number of school years.  Key Stage 1  is  covers   Year 1 ( Age 5 )  and Year 2 (Age 6 )  .  Key Stage covers  Year 3 ( age 7 ),  Year 4 ( age 8)   Year 5 ( age 9) and Year 6 (age 10).   Primary School   covers  six Areas of Learning namely  :

  •   Mathematical understanding
  •   Historical, geographical and social understanding
  •   Understanding English, communication and languages
  •   Scientific and technological understanding
  •   Understanding the arts
  •   Understanding physical development, health and wellbeing

CIE integrates  Cambridge Primary in its curriculum for primary school. It supports learning and development so learners are prepared to progress seamlessly to High School.  The curriculum framework puts more emphasis on encouraging students to develop their proficiency in English, Math, and Science skills, knowledge and understanding. The curriculum also emphasizes the encouragement of personal development to help children develop confidence, enhancing their ability to learn and help them become responsible adults.  Physical Education for Year 3, 4 and 5 is SWIMMING.   Physical Education for Year 6 is AIKIDO.

Students at Key Stage 2 will undergo an assessment for their skills in the English language through the Cambridge ESOL.  Students in Year 3, 4 and 5 will be taking the Cambridge YLE (Young Learners English) in its 3 levels, Starters, Movers and Flyers respectively. Cambridge YLE tests are an enjoyable and non-threatening way of assessing the English language skills of children between the ages of 7 and 12.

At the final year of each Key Stage (Year 2 for KS1 and Year 6 for KS2) the student will sit in the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint test to determine the academic progress and achievement in Math, Science and English in terms of global standards. This means that  such academic qualification is  recognized by  all  international schools worldwide.    This will assess the student’s readiness to progress to the next Key Stage.
