Foundation  School  is the  equivalent of the  Foundation  Stage in the  British  state education  system.  It is the stage during a learner’s early years  that prepares the learner for formal education  which starts  with  Primary School  .  The Foundation School is for children in the early year foundation stage between 1 to 5 years old.  It  has  four  levels namely :  Infant ( Age 1 )  ,  Toddler (Age 2 )  ,  Nursery (Age 3 )  and  Reception ( Age 4 ).  It aims to systematically help children to learn so they are: 

-          Helped to make connections in their learning.

-          Actively led forward to discover and appreciate  their  latent  geniuses ;

-          Helped to reflect on what they have already learned,  value what they  have learned, so as to  enable the learner to learn  generatively. Generative learning is learning what to learn  and    how to learn. The  generative  learner  shall  grow up to be  a self-driven  learner with minimum  need  for   external drivers to  drive them to learn.

-          Led  to  grow up  as well-informed and well-formed  learners and leaders.

 

The Foundation School curriculum is focused on the following aspects of learning:

-          Personal , Social and Emotional Development

  • Dispositions and attitude,
  • Gaining Self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Making relationships,
  • Behaviour and self-control,
  • Self-care, and
  • Sense of Community

-          Communication, Language and Literacy

  • Language for communication and thinking,
  • Linking sounds and letters
  • Reading, Writing and Handwriting

-          Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy

  • Numbers as labels for counting, Calculating, and Shape, space and measures

-          Knowledge and Understanding of the World

  • Exploration and investigation, Designing and making, and
  • ICT, Time, Place and Communities

-          Physical Development

  • Movement and space, Health and bodily awareness, and
  • Using equipment and materials

-          Creative Development

  • Being creative, responding to experiences, expressing and communicating ideas
  • Exploring media and materials,
  • Creating music and dance, and
  • Developing imagination and imaginative play

 

In all four  levels  of foundation  school,  there  shall be NO ASSIGNMENTS  TO BE DONE AT HOME   except for  the  designated  home reading  for the  day.  Individualized  assessment  ,  reinforcement  and enrichment  activities  are  done  during  the  daily  study period  before  dismissal.
